The PNC Championship was particularly special this year because it saw Tiger Woods on the golf course for the first time in almost a year.
Tiger Woods’ Return to Golf
Many fans weren’t expecting to see Tiger Woods play any golf in 2021 because of the injuries he had been battling much of the year after a tragic road accident. Woods’ car accident in early 2021 left him with months of tough recovery—there was even some talk of amputating the leg. Luckily, it didn’t come to that, but Woods was unable to golf for most of the year and most of us didn’t expect his return to happen until 2022.
PNC Championship 2021
Fans were surprised and delighted when Woods returned to the golf course in December 2021 at the PNC Championship, accompanied by his 12-year-old son, Charlie. The PNC Championship is an annual father-son golf challenge, where pro golfers and their sons team up and compete together. The winners of the 2021 PNC Championship were John Daly and his 18-year-old son, John Daly II. Even though the Woods team didn’t come in first place, both father and son left viewers impressed and excited.
12-year-old Charlie Woods showed great talent for golf during the PNC Championship, leaving proud dad Tiger grinning from ear to ear and saying, “Charlie was hitting the ball unbelievable.”
While Tiger Woods didn’t look exactly like his old self–for one thing, he was riding a golf cart instead of walking–glimmers of the old Tiger came out here and there, and we love to see him making his way back to golf. “Two good shots—three—came off exactly how I wanted,” said Tiger after the PNC Championship.
Tiger may not be completely back up to the standard of his old game, but it’s encouraging to see him back to any game at all. He’s not discouraged by anything, either, saying “It’s tiring out there, so it was a slow day. But that’s something that I’m going to have to—if I want to compete out here at the tour level—I’m going to have to get the endurance back and hit thousands upon thousands of golf balls. Just takes time.”
