Because of the delay due to the global pandemic, golf fans have been waiting excitedly for this year’s PGA Championship for a while. The championship did not disappoint fans—it was chock full of great moments and amazing game play. Here are a few of our favorites.
Eagle on 16
Wow. If there’s one thing from this year’s PGA Championship that people will still be talking about years from now, it’s Colin Morikawa’s eagle on the 16th hole. Morikawa’s huge 293-yard drive that led to a 7-foot eagle was amazing to see. In fact, we can’t stop rewatching it. This is what gave Morikawa a 2-shot lead and secured his win of the championship.
Matthew Wolff’s Unconventional Swing
We love watching Matthew Wolff play just so we can see that unorthodox swing of his! Wolff’s trademark swing is characterized by a huge turn on his backswing and a loop of the club on his downswing, generating massive speed. Wolff’s characteristic swing is apparently the result of how he naturally swung as a child learning golf—the current swing is built off of his instinct and has been altered and honed for years to get it just right. This type of swing might not be for every player, but we sure like watching it!
Morikawa’s Comical Trophy Hoist
After a well-deserved win, Marikawa went to hoist the Wanamaker Trophy in victory and—oops!—the trophy’s lid went flying off. Viewers and Morikawa all had a good laugh, and then Morikawa hoisted it again—straighter this time—with no issues. We always love seeing the human side to skilled athletes, and a little comedy was a nice way to end off the championship.
Now that you’ve watched the PGA, are you ready to get out there and play?
